Welcome to San Marcos Area Recovery Team!
The San Marcos Area Recovery Team (SMART) is a public safety dive team specializing in underwater investigation and recovery. Based out of San Marcos, we serve communities all over the Central Texas area, and have traveled out of state and internationally. We are a division of the South Hays Fire Department, and our members consist of Firefighters, Police Officers, and EMS personnel from various departments.
The San Marcos Area Recovery Team is looking for volunteers!
To be eligible, you must:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be an American Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident.
Submit to a Criminal History, Background Check, and Driving History;
Have No pending, differed, or conviction on any felonies or class A misdemeanors. Class B and C misdemeanors; arrests, charges, and convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. All arrests, charges and dispositions must be fully disclosed.
Be able to pass a drug test and consent to random testing.
Be certified as an EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter, or Police Officer, in good standing, and hold not less than two years of experience in public safety.
Be a certified SCUBA Diver, willing to train and advance your certifications.
Topside Support Personnel are not required to be certified divers.
Be able to obtain a Class B (exempt) drivers license and Texas Boater Card.
Understand that this is a volunteer position that requires regular training and can expose volunteers to certain hazards associated with public safety diving.
SMART is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that relies on tax deductible donations and sponsorships.
